The Nightingale

I am certainly one of the best-known singers in the bird world in Seewinkel. When I return from my winter quarters in tropical Africa, I fill the landscape around Lake Neusiedl with my clear, melodious song. From mid-April until well into midsummer, you can hear my voice in many places—often hidden, but unmistakable. My song makes me stand out, but my appearance is modest: about the size of a sparrow, dressed in plain brown and usually well hidden in the dense branches. It's not easy to see me — but it's all the easier to hear me.
