Bird ringing

As part of an international research project, our St. Martins rangers conduct bird ringing approximately every 20 days.

In the process, mainly songbirds are gently captured, fitted with a numbered foot ring, measured and released. Ringing is one of the most important tools in bird research, and the project we are carrying out serves to study changes in our songbird populations. In a special colour-ringing project, we are also researching the lifestyle of the tree sparrow.
