St. Martins is much more than a luxury thermal bath resort. As St. Martins Estate, we are also an eco-educational farm. We keep old breeds of domestic animals and practice active land management. In this way, we create habitats for biodiversity and the prerequisite for our actual "From the Estate - Ab Hof" offer: Your deeply relaxing getaway.
The contribution to the sponsorship is used entirely for the welfare of the animals at the St. Martins Estate.
Activities in nature and contact with animals have numerous positive effects on the spiritual, mental, physical and social well-being of humans.
A certified Green Care farm uses these resources for social and educational services according to high externally audited quality standards. It guarantees the professionalism of its services and makes an important contribution to increasing the quality of life and health. For the farm itself, Green Care represents an additional opportunity for economic security and thus contributes to the preservation of small-scale Austrian agriculture.
The animal-assisted professionals, the animals, the stables and the safety at the farm were closely examined.
Animal Assisted Intervention on the Farm (TGI)
refers to the specific use of farm animals in education, social work and/or therapy.
The professionals who oversee the programs in St. Martins have a basic educational profession, an agricultural qualification and additional TGI training.
The estate St. Martins has also been inspected by an external body for animal welfare, husbandry conditions and safety, and as part of a farm animal audit, the animals were certified for use in animal-assisted intervention.
According to the definition of "biophilia", we want to enable the guest to encounter the animal - or nature in general - at eye level and thus experience well-being & stress reduction. After all, we need the living environment to be able to remain psychologically and physically healthy ourselves.

Beastly great colleagues!
The animals in St. Martins create a special setting for our guests as well as for the whole team, which creates a feeling of "coming home".
The St. Martins estate - which combines the St. Martins barn and the discovery trail around our lake - is home to numerous farm animals. Many of these animals have been specially trained and certified for animal-assisted intervention. In addition, our animal "work colleagues" such as baroque donkeys, sheep and goats are also used for grazing valuable conservation areas.
If you follow the trail into the research station of the day spa, the animals become a bit more exotic, as there is a constant warm climate here all year round. The selected species such as Madagascar cockroaches, thorn insects and Australian ghost insects, among others, feel right at home here and support us in numerous zoo and eco-educational programs. Families have the opportunity to learn about nature and special species indoors, and pet care and animal welfare are also important topics that are discussed.
Through the mirrored panes of our photo hide, observers and photographers are not noticed by the birds. With a little patience and luck, you can take professional nature photos at close range! We recommend telephoto lenses with a focal length of 400mm or more, a tripod (can be borrowed free of charge if required) and dark clothing.
Availability on request, the most exciting times in the photo hide are the breeding season (April/May) and the autumn migration of birds (August/September).
With a lot of passion a part of a former salt pond - the Pimetzlacke - was renaturalized on the St. Martins site. The varnish has disappeared since about the 1980s and has now been brought back to "life". In the center of the shallow water is an observation hide sunk into the ground.
During this time, they can be photographed and observed at close range from the new hide. The bee-eater hide is a wooden hut without windows for a maximum of 2 people. We also recommend a focal length of 400 mm or more and a tripod as photographic equipment.

In the process, mainly songbirds are gently captured, fitted with a numbered foot ring, measured and released. Ringing is one of the most important tools in bird research, and the project we are carrying out serves to study changes in our songbird populations. In a special colour-ringing project, we are also researching the lifestyle of the tree sparrow.
As a guest, you have the opportunity to be present at ringing and release as part of our "Bird Ringing" tour or your Personal Nature Experience and see rare and shy bird species up close.
Accompanied by a St. Martins ranger, visit the bird ringing station at the discovery trail and experience bird research up close.
